2007 South Dakota State Fair "We're Still The One" is off to a Great Start!
September 4, 2007(Huron, SD) - The 2007 South Dakota State Fair is underway and runs through Monday, September 3rd.
This year's fair is off to a great start with many smiling faces enjoying all that there is to offer at this year's South Dakota State Fair.
Some the highlights from opening day at the fair included: Governor Rounds addressing our war veterans during the Veterans Program, also the Chester Sorensen SD Veteran of the Year Award was given out.
The Red Wilk Construction CBR Bull Bash kicked off the grandstand events on Wednesday and Thursday nights to a very large, supportive and boisterous crowd on both nights!
Williams and Ree opened up the Northwestern Freedom stage to a standing room only crowd on Thursday afternoon; one member of the audience was quoted as saying "I never knew these two guys were so much fun and hilarious, what a great show and it�s free!"
Some of the other activities going strong, the Chef's competition was a hit in the Women's building along with the kitchen demonstrations. With over 100 more vendors than in past years at this year's fair you are sure to find something that interests you.
One other special event that took place was the Century Award which was handed out to seventy-four (74) families. A Century Award is given to families that have kept their farms within the same family for 100 years. Congratulations to all those families that have kept the family farm alive in South Dakota!
Today the fun and excitement continues at the Fair!
It's Prostrollo Motor Companies Day - Stop by the Prostrollo Motors Building to see the newest GM vehicles on display. Always a hit, GM "concept vehicles" will also be on display. In addition, there will be hourly door prize drawings. Stop by for free ice water, too!
Goldstar Amusements Carnival Midway opens up at 12pm!
Welde's Big Bear show has been a big hit, make sure you catch the shows at 10:30am, 1:15pm and 6:00pm today. Gordy Pratt performs daily on the Dakotaland stage.
Eclipse performs in the Beer Garden tonight following the Grandstand entertainment.
Tonights Grandstand event features four time CMA nominee country music recording artist Terri Clark with the Doo-Wah Riders hitting the stage at 8 pm.
