South Dakota State Fair
The South Dakota State Fair showed great numbers for 2007 and we were proud to be a part of their success. Going back to the basics with a strategic marketing plan, decreasing related expenses, and facilitating a face to face media-blitz to re-introduce ourselves to the major news makers in the state, all proved to be successful strategies.
"I heard over and over this year from fairgoers, 'the fair is really back!'" commented Susan Hayward, State Fair Manager. "We’ve had wonderful, positive comments about the exceptional free stage and grounds entertainment, grandstand shows, terrific vendors, and outstanding carnival. Having perfect weather for five days was just the final touch to a near perfect fair." Goldstar Amusements once again gave
South Dakotans the largest carnival in the state. They were a huge success, with an increase in sales of 35 percent.
Seems everything showed increases, from camping to livestock, vendors to carnival numbers. It was a great event all around, and one we take personal pride in. There have been numerous ad agencies involved with the State Fair in recent years and it gives us great satisfaction to know we “outshined the big boys” when it came to marketing this statewide event.
In addition to marketing, Robert Sharp & Associates was on grounds for the five day fair to implement new programs such as
VIP packages for grandstand events, operated a media center and coordinated live media interviews with celebrities, state officials and vendors. We also conducted over 500 face-to-face interviews with fairgoers to get their feedback on the fair and learn what is being done right, and what can be improved upon.
We are sad to announce that Susan Hayward, General Manager of the SD State Fair has resigned to move closer to family and aging parents in
Utah. She has become a personal friend and an advocate of Robert Sharp & Associates. We wish her the best in her new venture and look forward to meeting new friends next year at the South Dakota State Fair.
